Jean-Louis Bossuet started his career as wood expert selecting the oak trees for Tonnellerie Radoux’s barrels. Subsequently, he created his own merranderie (stave mill) supplying other coopers with staves and headings. Of note, Jean-Louis was the exclusive supplier for Chateau Petrus and their house cooper Pierre Darnajou. Under Pierre, Jean-Louis learned the art of coopering, and in 1987 he founded his own cooperage with the goal of making high quality barrels for top Bordeaux houses. With his background in forestry, Jean-Louis is immensely knowledgeable when it comes to oak grade and only selects the best for his barrels. As one of the last independent traditional cooperages, Jean-Louis motto is “one man, one barrel". Trained in house by Jean-Louis, each cooper at Bossuet crafts barrels from beginning to end to ensure that attention to detail is maintained throughout the process. Today Jean-Louis works with his wife Christiane and son Yoan to continue the legacy of Tonnellerie Bossuet and keep the autonomous spirit of his family company alive. Tonnellerie Bossuet and The Boswell Company have been partners since 1994 and work with many elite wineries throughout California and Washington.
