Introduced to American winemakers in 2019, La Fabrique Eric Millard was called, “the most exciting cooperage brought in by The Boswell Company in their 45 years." Eric Millard makes every new barrel by hand with a maximum production of five barrels per day. Growth at La Fabrique has been slow and intentional and in 2023 the opportunity arose to purchase a new cooperage building in Burgundy.
Eric started his career as a cabinetmaker. Surrounded by the grapevines of the Côte-d'Or, he was inspired to study as a cooper in Beaune before refining his trade at François Frères. Keen to work more closely with the wine, Eric then spent almost 30 years at the historic Domaine Louis Latour winery and cooperage. During this time, Eric mastered the art of making one type of barrel as the Latour cooperage model dictates.
With over three decades of coopering experience, Eric realized he was reaching the pinnacle of his passion and knowledge and in 2018 launched La Fabrique. Monsieur Millard works exclusively with family owned stave mills and guarantees wood origin as "haute futaie" from the premier center of France forests. His proprietary, labor-intensive toasting protocol allows Eric to craft exquisite barrels, worthy of your top lots of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Syrah.
